Summer is a time for relaxation. For taking a break and chilling out at the beach, forgetting our troubles, not caring about our usual agenda – it’s a kind of slow-motion period, during which our determination and stamina seem to be absorbed by the unbearable heat. At Sushi Sei, though, an incredibly important phase began, silently, behind the scenes…
The Oscar gala for Japanese cuisine chefs from all around the world is organized by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. The aim of the special contest is to give recognition to the world’s prominent non-Japanese chefs who excel in their profession and make Japanese gastronomy more and more popular all over the globe.
The country’s Ministry of Agriculture is very active in acknowledging foreign chefs who passionately work on presenting the finest Japanese dishes by proving the perfect mix of quality and creativity to their guests. The Washoku World Challenge is the Ministry’s way to pay tribute to these talented culinary artists, wherever they may enhance the tradition of the island’s wonderful meals.
This is not the first time Sushi Sei would make an appearance at the important international challenge: last year, our chef came third at the European finals. The training period has already started and the qualifying tournaments will soon be held in five cities worldwide, taking place in Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Bangok and Osaka. The six chefs who pass the qualifiers will be invited to the final tournament that will be held in Tokyo at the end of January next year.
Besides our chef’s achievements, our restaurant itself had also received the recognition of the Ministry: we feel unspeakably proud of having been able to get certified by JETRO (Japan External Organization) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan who acknowledged that Sushi Sei ‘completed the full requirements of the Guidelines for Certification of Japanese Food and Ingredient Supporter Stores Overseas’.
